Best Man Speech Tips for Great Wedding Speeches
Best Man Speech Tips for a crowd pleasing Best Man speech starts with not giving a generic and impersonal wedding speech.
Best Man Speech Tips #1
Nothing is worse than listening to a Best Man Speech that sounds like it could be read at any x,y,z wedding. An impersonal generic speech is boring for the wedding audience and unflattering to the wedding couple.
2nd Best Man Speech Tips #2
One of my favorite Best Man Speech Tips is to begin the speech by talking about something that is unique to this particular wedding. Here are some ideas:
- Is the wedding held in a unique physical location? For example a historic church built in 1890 where royalty married.
- Is the time of year special? For example Christmas Weddings or the first day of spring and cherry blossoms are blooming.
- Is there something unique about the wedding guests? For example, one third of our guests have traveled from overseas to attend this wedding.
Best Man Speech Tips #3
The other Best Man Speech tips are that the wedding audience likes to learn about how the Best Man and Groom know each other. Tell the audience about something you admire about the Groom. Mention something about the couple how they met or their favorite pass times.
The Best Man will focus his speech content more on the Groom. The Maid of Honor will speak more about the Bride. The Best Man and Maid of Honor may want to compare speeches before the wedding so they do not duplicate each other too much.
Best Man Speech Tips for Less Stress
A simple but often overlooked idea is for the Best Man to carry an index card, with all the wedding party names on it, in his coat pocket. When it is time to present the Best Man’s Speech he places the card on the podium so that he can easily read it.
This is useful for a couple of reasons:
- It is possible that the Best Man may feel nervous and forget names he needs to refer to in his speech. If he places the index card on the podium while presenting his speech, he can easily see the information.
- An index card with wedding party names along with phone numbers is good to have with him. The Best Man is able to take charge and make a phone call if an item is forgotten at the church.
Best Man Speech Tips for Presenting the Speech
Get the Speech off to a confident start, not a weak start
- Stand up straight with shoulders back, smile.
- Get the attention of the audience before starting.
The Best Man should set up his notes, champagne glass etc. and begin speaking from a confident place when he is ready.
Some speakers feel obligated to start talking while they are putting their notes on the podium and adjusting the microphone etc. This is a very weak way to start the speech because the wedding audience has to look at their bent head and hear their muffled words.
